On October 20th, the Center for Information Technology Innovation (CITI) and UC Denver Business School's Information Systems Association (ISA) hosted the fourth annual CIO executive panel event, "Become a Business Leader With an Edge." The annual event provides an opportunity for students to learn about what executives are looking for and what they see as the future of business and information technology. This year's CIO Panel had the largest attendance so far, attracting 215 attendees.

Denver-area manufacturing activity fell in August to its lowest point since April, and a sharp drop in new orders suggests that the situation won’t improve in September.

The Denver Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) fell to 35.55 percent in August, down from 48.02 percent in July and 50.81 percent in June. The monthly survey is a joint project of the University of Colorado Denver Business School and the Denver chapter of the National Association of Purchasing Management (NAPM).

Encana gives $1M to Business School

A $1 million gift from EnCana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc. was announced on Wednesday, June 24, at the Make Your Mark event. EnCana has long been a close ally and partner of UC Denver’s Business School beginning with the initial development of an energy accounting course in 2006, followed by the development and launch of the school’s new Global Energy Management (GEM) degree, which enrolled its first students in January 2009. A Canadian corporation with its US headquarters in Denver, EnCana is the largest producer of natural gas in North America. more »

UC Denver supports Businesses learning about sustainability at CORE conference

On March 17th, the Business School’s Management of Sustainability Program presented a Green Business Fundamentals Seminar to kick off the CORE (Colorado Connected Organizations for a Responsible Economy) 2009 Sustainable Opportunities Summit at the downtown convention center.  Presenters included Business School faculty John Byrd and Nicole Vowles; Betsy Long, an alum of the Managing for Sustainability program and consultant in Sustainability Management; and Steve Bernard, a MBA student in the program and Ph.D. student in the University of Colorado Denver IGERT program.  Thirty-eight practitioners in the community and University of Colorado Denver students attended the event, a great learning and networking experience for all. more »

Passion for Global Business Leads to the Creation of a $1.5 Million Endowed Chair for the Business School at the University of Colorado Denver

In the 1950s, Robert H. Reynolds became a very successful and highly respected businessman in the import/export business. At a time when the global economy was taking its first steps, he was able to establish solid business contacts around the world. His passion for global business has resulted in a $1.5 million bequest that will fund the first endowed chair at the Business School at the University of Colorado Denver and be recognized as the largest one-time gift in the Business School’s history. continue »

 

GEM Program Underway

January 23, 2009

The global energy management (GEM) program's inaugural cohort got underway with the in-class portion of the program January 12 - 15, 2009. The first cohort group consists of 30 students from a variety of energy companies and backgrounds. During the first four days students were introduced to their groups, professors, the technology used within the course as well as intensive learning sessions lasting from 7 am - 6pm daily.

Ambron part of Denver's 150: People Who Care

In celebration of its 150th birthday on Nov. 22, 2008, the city and county of Denver has selected 150 of its citizens to honor as "unsung heroes" -- ordinary people who have done extraordinary things to help make our city a better one for this and future generations.

Top Level Executives speak to students about their experience and what they need to compete

For a third consecutive year, the Center for Information Technology Innovation (CITI) and UC Denver’s Information Systems Association presented Become a Leader with an Edge. This year’s event had nearly 200 students and faculty attend the event, unlike like year’s event which competed with the Rockies’ World Series game for attendance.

Global Energy Management Masters Degree to Fill Growing Need; Half of All Energy Executives May Retire in Next Five Years

Program was created at the request of energy companies that have a growing need to groom employees to fill leadership positions

The University of Colorado Board of Regents approved a new Master of Science degree today for the University of Colorado Denver Business School. As a master's degree located within the largest accredited graduate school of business in the state, the focus of the Global Energy Management (GEM) degree is on the business side of energy management, educating the industry's future executive leaders. The program's first cohort class will begin their first term in January 2009. continue »

Business School emails move to UCDenver.edu

The faculty and staff of the University of Colorado Denver Business School moved to the new ucdenver.edu domain for email on Friday. As part of the consolidation effort the UC Denver Downtown Campus and the Anschutz Medical Campus will combine their online presence into one UCDenver.edu domain name. Moving email addressing is the first step toward the new integration.  continue »

The best and brightest in the Business School were recently inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) honor society.  The spring induction ceremony was held on April 4, 2008.

Formed in 1991, the Colorado Ethics in Business Alliance's (CEBA) mission is to promote ethical business conduct through education and by recognizing those who show outstanding ethical standards throughout Colorado. CEBA’s annual awards luncheon was on March 20, 2008 in downtown Denver.  The luncheon was held to honor the 2008 award winners. 

Eight UC Denver students as part of the Chancellor’s Scholars and Leaders helped select winners CEBA by interviewing nominees and producing reports for the selection committee to review. continue»

University of Colorado Denver Announces Plans for New Business School Location

Newly Elected President Joins University of Colorado Denver Business School

DENVER. The University of Colorado Denver Business School announced today that Bruce Benson, newly elected president of the University of Colorado system, will join the school’s faculty as an executive in residence and professor attendant.

President Bruce Benson is an accomplished leader in the energy industry. His position at the Business School recognizes his experience in the field. He will bring expertise to the Global Energy Management Initiative (GEM) being developed at the school. Beta Alpha Psi students offering Tax Assistance

March 1, 2008

Tax season is upon us!  This will mark the 17th year that the UC Denver Theta Sigma Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi has been participating in Volunteer Income Tax Assistance.  The program is run by the Denver Asset Building Coalition to provide tax return preparation for individuals with low to moderate income.

Seven UC Denver students are volunteering their skills and time every Saturday through April 15th.  Tax preparation is happening at two sites, the Emily Griffith Opportunity School and the King Trimble Center.  The Co-President of Beta Alpha Psi, Michelle Verrier, estimates that the students preparing taxes at the Emily Griffith site will be completing 35 to 40 returns each Saturday. continue»
